Morrinsville Netball

On Sunday the 30th of May NPS 1 went to Morrinsville for a netball tournament. We played Thames first and we lost by about 5 goals. Next we  played Cambridge and the score was 14-5 to us. We played two more teams and lost both of the games by 2 goals. We almost got into the finals but we didn't. It was really cool to go to the tournament and hopefully we get to go to more.

NYLD 2016

Last week on Thursday the year 7 & 8's of Ngatea School went to NYLD. We got to hear from some amazing speakers. One of my favorites was Brylee Mills.
When she was 6 she was in an accident and her arms got injured. They were able to save one of her arms but the other had to be amputated. She performed a  piece of dance for us and it was beautiful. We were really lucky and the police from the running man did it with us it was really cool.

Current Events: First Night Flight in Queenstown

First night flight in Queenstown

The first evening flight in Queenstown occured last night. Air New Zealand flight NZ613 touched down before 7:30 and departed again at 8:30 back to Auckland.  Over the last 6 months work had been done to upgrade Queenstown runway, airfield lighting and airline procedures for the ability to take night time flights.  It is hoped that the ability to run night time flight will increase the number for tourists  coming into the area. Air New Zealand said it was exciting to launch the service, just before the winter ski season. The airline's full evening schedule will take effect from July 3.
Ability: Possession of the means or skills to do something
Tourists:  A person who is travelling or visiting a place for pleasure
Service: The action of helping or doing work for someone
My Opinion: I think its cool that there is a chance we have more tourists to make our country more popular.

"I  ORGANISE MYSELF TO BE READY TO LEARN.  I KNOW WHEN I NEED TO TAKE A  BREAK FROM LEARNING"   My goals
  • This week I will turn my light out at 8.45pm  so I can get the right amount of sleep I need.
  • I'll  put celery or carrots in my lunch so I have some extra vegetables
  • Also I will take regular brain break so my brain can clear and function

I think I achieved my set goal  I put celery in my lunch everyday and took quite a few brain breaks. I did turn my light out at 8.45 pm but I stayed up a bit mucking around. Earlier this week we discussed our goal . We had to set out own personal goal.  I think I did well with this goal but I think I can still improve. I will improve by carryng this goal through out this term and the next 2.

Current events: Remains of Captain cooks ship believed to be found

American archaeologists may have found the remains of the ship on which Captain James Cook first charted New Zealand in 1770.Researchers believe they may have come across the wreck of HMS Endeavour off the coast of Rhode Island. The ship was last seen in 1778. The ship was then being used as a transport vessel during the American Revolution. It also had a new name – Lord Sandwich. The Endeavour was a bark – a three-masted sailing ship. The Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project (RIMAP) says the Endeavour was one of 13 ships sunk in Newport Harbour in 1778.Archaeologists will now carry out further investigations on the vessel’s structure and its related artifacts.

PE Reflection

For a few weeks now we have been doing long ball for PE. You have to throw 2 balls and run to the other end without being hit by it. We tried doing two long ball field joint together and a rest space in the middle. It was a bit more challenging. When I went home and told my Mum about it she said she also played long ball as a kid. Dad said he played softball  and it was a bit like it. I hope we play more Long Ball in the future.

Goal Reflection

To choose the right learning space for the right learning.

Blogging - The Lounge; AWS - The Lounge OR The Hub; IE creation - The Lab OR The Creator Maker Space; Reading - The Lounge; IE Summarising - The Lounge; Writing - The Lounge OR The Hub; Book Spine - The Lounge OR The Hub

Last week we had this goal as well but the teachers thought we could do better. We talked about if your friend is a real friend they won't mind if you sit somewhere else not with them. I think I have done well with this goal. I have sat in the main meeting space and did 2 pages of AWS in 30 minutes. I also sat in the Lounge and quietly read my book. I have achieved this goal and I think most of the other students have to.

Mothers day

On Friday our school had a mothers day high tea. All our mothers were invited into class to have afternoon tea. We had a photo booth with props. When my Mum arrived she went to my younger sister's class and had a little piece of slice and a sandwich. We were talking with my parents friends and then we came into our class. I showed her my art and then we went home. I had a great day with Mum.

Current Event: Forest fires swamp Canada

A huge wildfire raging in the Canadian province of of Alberta is growing further and could spill in to neighboring Saskatchewan. The flames have already  caused the evacuation of 80,000 people from the oil city of Fort McMurray. Thousands are still stuck north of the city and their evacuation is still to take place.Hot, dry and windy conditions are hampering efforts by hundreds of firefighters to tackle the blaze. The wildfire now covers an area of more than 200,000 hectares, which includes areas still ablaze and areas already burnt. That is roughly double the size of Auckland City. Some 1,600 homes and other buildings have been lost but no deaths or injuries have been reported.
Province: A principal administrative division of a country or empire.
Evacuation : The action of evacuating a person or a place
Hampering :  Movement or progress.
My opinion: It is crazy on how out of control this fire is Auckland feels huge let alone double of it on fire!

Learner Agency

Today we all talked about learner agency.
We have to reflect on what we do well and something we need to work on.
Something I do well: Think for myself, be original and show confidence.
In art  I take a step out of the box and think of cool ways to express myself.
Something I need to Improve on: Forgetting about my friends and working by myself.
How I influence others. Being happy and not being afraid to be different.  In art I also can give people ideas from my art.  Dr. Seuss once said You are you that is truer than true there is no one alive that is youer than you.

Three slogans on camper vans have been banned by the chief censor of New Zealand. It is the first time writing on a vehicle  has been banned in this country. Wicked campers will face fines up to $200,000 if the three designs are still used. The company have been in the news a lot recently for the rude and degrading word on their campers. A number of important New Zealanders and groups have been campaigning for a while to get the company to change their designs.
Campaigning: Work in an organized and active way towards a goalFines : A sum of money exacted as a penalty by a court of law or other authority. My Opinion: I think it is fair for them to be banned because the messages were really rude. Last month DOC camp grounds banned the use of the vehicles in their campsite.
