Current Events: Stuck in a vending machine

Stuck in a Vending machine

A 4 year old boy from  Australia spent 6 hours stuck in a vending machine. The boy was on holiday with his family in Melbourne when he came across his first ever vending machine in the hotel. While attempting to reach inside the machine for a packet of biscuits, his arm became stuck in the anti-theft mechanism.Emergency services were called and had to cut the boy out of the machine with an angle grinder. He was later taken to Royal Children’s Hospital.
In my opinion why should they have to have burglar alarms to vending machines I mean they would only steal some chips or chocolate.  I chose to write about this because I think this was a bad event that happened and shouldn’t have.

Leadership Responsibilities

This year I got the chance to enter for some leadership roles. I got into the Lunchtime activities team and I am the leader. I also got into the Ambassador team.  The lunch time activities team are a group of students who get to run lunch time activities for the students. The ambassador team greets the visitors at the front of the school and the 2 leaders talk to them with our principle in the staff room. I am super happy I got chosen for these roles and I can’t wait to get started

Swimming Sports

It was a steaming hot day. The first race I competed in was the medley. It was difficult because when I went from Butterfly in to backstroke my foot slipped off the wall so I had to start myself.  I did 1 length Breaststroke, Butterfly, backstroke and freestyle.  In 2 lengths I did all the same events. I was also featured in 2 relays. I did freestyle in both of them.  This week we had  Hauraki Plains on Monday but it got postponed due to weather so it will be tomorrow. I will be competing in the Medley, 1 length Butterfly. 2 lengths Backstroke, Freestyle and Breaststroke. I also got in for Breaststroke 3 lengths and freestyle.

Different Types Of Leadership

On Monday the head boy and girl from Hauraki Plains college came down to talk to us about leadership.  Gus and Brylie talked to us about the different type of leader such as Merchant, priest, Warrior and Profit. They named some people around the world and we had to try and figure out the answer. If we got the answer right we got a chocolate fish. A merchant is a person who gives to others. Not necessarily giving all of it to another but most of it. Priest a priest is someone who cares for everyone. Warrior is a person who fights and stands up for what they believe in and fight for it. Profit is someone who thinks about his/her’s actions  before doing anything to benefit the people. I learned a lot from them and I think it will have an impact on my leadership.

The 2016 Grammy awards was broadcasted from  Los Angeles on Tuesday (NZ time). The Grammys is an annual ceremony for achievement in the music industry. This year Taylor Swift’s 1989 won the album of the year award. She also won best pop vocal album and best music video for her song  ‘Bad Blood’.Rapper Kendrick Lamar won the most prizes on the night with five awards.Singer Ed Sheeran won his first two Grammys for song of the year and best pop solo performance for his hit ‘Thinking Out Loud’. This year Taylor Swift performed during the show, along with Lamar, Adele, Ellie Goulding, James Bay and The Weekend. Adele's performance was disrupted by all the audio changes. In my opinion all the songs were amazing I saw them on YouTube and even though Adele’s performance was a bit shaky it is still amazing compared to my singing.  Did Taylor swift’s frenemy Katy Perry receive any thing?

Apple tower reflection

On Monday we did the Apple tower challenge.  We had to make a tower to hold an apple out of straws and tape. Our one was a fail but it was a great learning curve.  We tried our hardest and worked as best as we could as a team. It showed how some people responded to the challenge and how others responded.
Here are some photo's to show you what we did. P.S this is  not ours these are from the internet and this is an orange.

4 words that describe me

4 words I would use to describe myself
Netball, Cooking, Caring, Reading
Reading I LOVE to Read. I could just read all day everyday. I love to cook and make things out of the Chelsea Winter’s cookbook’s and meatloaf.I am always caring for other people. Netball I love to play netball if I had my way netball all day every day and have the back yard a netball court.

4 words My parents would use to describe me
Passionate Swimming Helpful Loving
Passionate that I am right according to my parents.
I love to swim and am always wanting to go swimming.
Helpful I always help around the house and with dinner.
Loving Because I am always saying stuff like I love you.

4 words My Teachers would use to describe me
Helpful, Caring, Passionate, Persistence
I can help when they ask or when others ask I would help them.  I care for others. If someone needs a hand because they get hurt I will always help them. I’m passionate about certain things in life.So many things there are too many to list. I show persistence because I never give up when everything gets hard. When I want to give up I don’t I put in that little bit more effort and then I get it.

Same but different

This  year in Marama I thought we would be having a ton of homework and heaps of work when really it isn’t that bad. We get no homework unless we're behind and not that much work but enough to give us something to do all week. We thought all the teachers were grumpy but really they are so kind. You can suggest something and they could say that's good but hey why don’t you add this here.  They like to challenge us and I like that it’s nice to be challenged. I think everyone is scared of them cause their voices are a bit scary when they yell. Marama already is my favorite syndicate just by everything.

The Marama way

Multiple Intelligences

I know that I am not the best at some of these but I think that this chart describes me well.Visual/Spatial,  I am not the best at visual art but I really want to get better. Body Smart  I personally think I am Body smart when it comes to sports, some people may say different things but I am always willing to give things a go. Musical I know how to play a Trumpet and Piano but I do have some trouble remembering where to put my fingers. Naturalistic I can’t name trees just by looking at them I have to google it or ask somebody. Peoplesmart.  I am not really an Independent learner, I like working in groups. When I collaborate I hear what others have to say then my brain gets jogging and then gets some good ideas. Logical Smart, I am not the best when it comes to Maths. I find it hard to picture all the numbers and rhythms in my head. I also find it hard to draw the 3D shapes because I have trouble getting all the angles the same size. Myself smart I do know myself but sometimes I don’t if you know what I mean. It’s hard to know everything about you when you haven’t had an experience to think about it all. What impact will/could it have? Most of the time I find it hard to concentrate so this chart could prove to me I have to work a lot harder for what I want to achieve in my learning. What does this Smarts Test mean for my learning? It shows me how I need to work harder and try that little bit harder. It also shows me what I am good at and what I need to improve on. What are your strengths?   I think one of my strengths are working in groups.

Welcome back 2016

This year I am looking forward to being in a different learning environment with different people to collaborate with. Something different I am going to try is… Working with people I don’t normally work with.
My first impressions in the Marama Team…It is different to how I learned last year, I had this thought that it was gonna be really tough but now that I have settled in it is a bit more easier to understand.
A goal I would like to achieve this year… To try and get a leadership role or just be the best I can be.
Something I already know I am going to do better this year… Hanging out with different people all the time. Not hanging out with everyone I did last year. I find that if I still hang out with the people I am at the moment I might be a bit more focused on my learning. Being myself. Last year I was always wanting everyone to think of me a certain way. But know I don't really care how they think of me. This is all I think.

My Theme Song

The 100 word Recount

Tairua

I was invited to go to Tairua with Brooke’s Family last holidays. Wayne arrives . I put my stuff in, we head of. We haul slowly up the hill and then drop down. Around a few more corners, I can see Tairua. We drive up the driveway. I walk inside, I can see Brooke and we  jump into our togs and grab the GoPro were ready to go.  We got to the bridge jumped off a thousand times. Add 2 more days but then we had to say goodbye. Why do all the good weekends have to end so soon?
