Calf Club 2017!

On Wednesday 25th of October we had Calf Club. I took my lamb Charlie and my sister took  her lamb Rambo. We first had obstacle course which I thought Charlie did quite well. She got 2nd. For leading Charlie got 3rd and for calling she got 5th. In Rearing and Handling she got a 2nd. At prize giving Charlie and I got most obvious pet lamb. My proudest moment of the day would be when Charlie came in calling. She never stopped and came all the way.

My Holidays: What I did in my holidays

On the first weekend  of the school holidays we celebrated Emma's birthday with her. We went to 10 pin bowling in Sky City. I won 1 game then lost the other game. After we had finished bowling we went to the escape rooms. We almost got out but we stuffed up the code. After we had finished we  went back to Emma's house. We had dinner, had a spa and watched a movie. It was a really good day.

Thames Gymsports Festival
File_002.jpegOn Thursday the 29th of June, a group of students years 4-8 from Ngatea Primary School attended the Thames Gymsport festival. There were three levels of difficulty for the Gymnastics Competition: Twisters (Hard), Flyers (Medium) and Springers (Beginners). Our school did very well in the gymnastics area of the competition with some students placing in the top six for their age and level of difficulty. Two groups of year 7&8 students entered into the cheerleading category. The two groups were called the NPS Minnies and the NPS All Stars. Both of the groups placed in the top two. The NPS Minnies came first and the NPS All Stars came second. Both groups have qualified to go to the Gym Sport Regionals held in Hamilton in August. Throughout the the day many of the NPS students were spotted showing a great attitude and sportsmanship and received a spot prize for this. We all thought it was an amazing experience and was a great opportunity to try something new and exciting!

Her yellow boots are as yellow as a sunflower on a summer's day. She has a red t-shirt that reflects of the ocean as she flys over. And her blue pants dazzle through the night. Current events:Fonterra stands down heavy truckies

Fonterra has had to stand down all their truck drivers above a certain weight.

The company learned from a question that truck seats are only safe for people who way under 150 kilograms.
Fonterra had to stand down about 50 people.

Source: Kiwi Kids News

2 Words

Fonterra:
Is a New Zealand multinational dairy co-operative

Stand down:
Withdraw or resign from a position.

My opinion: I think this really sucks for the truck drivers because they have to lose weight just so they can go back to doing their job, but I think it is better for Fonterra to do this so that their drivers safety isn't at risk.

Highwayman

Definition
Example from the poem
How effective do you think it was? Did you like it?
Simile
A way of speech involving a comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind.
His eyes were hollows of madness, his hair like moldy hay,
I loved this simile the way the author wrote it. I think it really describes the Highwayman.
Metaphor
A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is compared to an object or action to which it is not possible.
The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,
I think that this is a good metaphor. It is really interesting.
Alliteration
The same letter or sound at the beginning of closely connected words.
Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark inn-yard,
I think this is a good alliteration. It keeps you hooked in for the rest of the poem.
Repetition
The action of repeating that has already been written or said
The highwayman came riding--
Riding--riding--

I think this one is smart. It continues on and on. It sound good when it is in the poem too.
Symbolism
An artistic and poetic way or style using images or words to express emotions etc
Down the ribbon of moonlight, over the brow of the hill,
I think this is a great example because the words just gel well together and get you really hooked.

You can either use these definitions or put it into your own words...

Starting a series of words with the same consonant sound e.g. A big black boulder.
Saying that one thing is similar to another e.g. My fingers are like ice.
The use of one object or action (a symbol) to represent or suggest something else.
Repeating the same words or phrases a few times to make an idea clearer.
Saying that one thing is another e.g. My fingers are ice.
