The Treaty of Waitangi
Many many years ago in 1840 the treaty of Waitangi was created. The treaty of Waitangi was an agreement between the Maori and the British.  They created the treaty to have fairness and to have respect between the two cultures. They used the treaty to figure out how the were going to live in New Zealand together as one huge family. The treaty traveled around New Zealand getting signatures from Maori Chiefs. Around 500 chiefs signed the treaty. A copy of the treaty is now stored in the Waitangi Treaty Grounds in the Bay of Islands. The way I see a treaty in modern days is like a contract of some sort. For example before we get our netball uniforms we have to sign a form to say the we will look after them and respect the rules the the club has made. Also a contract with your landlord. Now the treaty of Waitangi isn't is celebrated as much as before.
