Taupo Netball Tournament

The crazy adventures at the Taupo Tournament

On Friday I went to my friend's house. We were getting prepared to go to Taupo for a reps tournament. We went to sleep and woke up the next morning. We had a pancake and had a shower.

We jumped into the car to go to Ngatea to pick up Lara.We started driving to Taupo. We go to Tirau and went to this really cool Christmas decorations shop and went to an ice cream shop. I got a hokey pokey single scoop waffle cone.

We were about 30 minutes away for Taupo and Lara was sick.I jumped out of the car. We went to the Huka falls look out. We arrived at our motel and jumped into our togs and went to ac baths.

Lara was still sick so she didn't come. I went down the slow and fast Hydro slide . We also went on the Tarzan swing. We went back to the motel and  ordered Dixie.

I had this really nice burger. It was so big they had to have it in two halves. We also ordered garlic bread but I didn't eat it because I was so full.  We went to bed and at 12.20 pm Brooke started spewing.

I wake up in the morning and watched some of the Olympic highlights and had a pancake.I got into my netball uniform  and put on my shoes. We went to the courts and watched the year 6’s rep team. Since Lara and Brooke got sick we had to borrow a year 6 each game.

First we played Taumarunui and lost. I played GK. Our second game was against Hastings and we lost. I played GK.

Then we played 2 other games but I can’t remember who we were up against but we lost both of them. I hope that next season I can do it all again.

Mahe Drysdale wins gold in photo finish

Image result for Mahe drysdale goldMahe Drysdale has won the men’s single sculls at the Rio Olympics. The kiwi won our gold second medal of the Games with a dramatic photo finish victory. The Croatian led the field by a boat length after 1000 m but by the 1500 m mark Drysdale was in front and he appeared to have the race under control. But a sensational burst by the Croatian seemingly beat Drysdale right on on the line. There was then a nervous wait for a minute and a half as the judges checked the photo finish,  before awarding the race to Drysdale but crediting both rowers with the same time.Below is the photo finish. The kiwi boat is the top boat.

Opinion: I really enjoyed knowing that we have another gold after Valerie got silver

Group Endeavour Ignition

Image result for old CameraThis term we are starting to brain storm what we are most interested in. Instead of doing it alone we will be doing it in groups. My 1st choice was photography. I really like photography because you can capture beautiful moments and have them last forever. A couple of my questions were, who was the first person to invent the camera and flash? Who was the first person to take a photo? I hope I can learn more about photography throughout this term. My Second option was Travel. My last IE was based on travel, cutlers and food. This IE I wanted to base it more about the traveling side of it. How long does it take to go from New Zealand in a plane to London or by boat. I hope that if I don't get my first option I get my second option.

He scored the final try of the game and hit two conversions and two  penalties.   Hurricanes winger Cory Jane

Book Bash: Boy On the wooden box

This Term for book bash I am reading The boy on the wooden box.   I think that these characters go through some horrible times and  it will teach us not to take what we have for granted. I think the boy is quite young judging the cover of the book. I love the way he worded the back of the book by not giving to much away but just enough.

I also think that his town gets bombed and he will leave the country. He might  go somewhere else where he is safer.  I hope nothing bad happens to him or his family, but I think something bad might happen.  I can't wait to read this book because it looks really interesting.

Art Mural Reflection

IMG_1194.JPG
Last Term for art we did mural focusing on our family and culture. Starting from the left I have the southern cross recognizing where I am from. The boat is for fishing with my family and the kiwi is driving because it is New Zealand's icon. I have the plane representing  World War 1  with poppy's flying out the back. The truck represents what my family does for a living and the hill is Mt Te aroha. The crosses represent all the soldiers lost in the war. On top of the hill the tent represents camping, because that is one of our favorite thing to do as a family. The flag is the New Zealand flag which is also  a netball hoop, the earth is the netball. I love how my Mural turned out it was really hard to water colour but I love it.

Current events:Woman donated $26,000 to Salvation Army by mistake

An elderly Australian woman has lost $25,000 au (NZ$26,000) in cash after accidentally donating the cushions she stored the money in to charity. The 76-year-old returned to the South Fremantle Salvation Army store in Western Australia last month after realising her mistake, but the two pale printed cushions were gone.“I’ve got a little bit of money in the bank which I use to pay my bills but this money was my security to help my kids if they needed anything desperately,” she said. She said keeping a portion of her money out of the bank was something she had done since the global economic crisis.
Opinion: I think that it is rather sad that all her money disappeared and she hasn't gotten it back. I am hoping that she get's it back and the person who brought the pillows brings it back.

4 things I learned/ enjoyed this week

This week was New Zealand Maori week so we decided to do some traditions that they have.

  • My first favorite was making fry bread. Imagine pita pockets well that's what they are like. It was quite fun kneading the dough.
  • My second favorite was making poi's. Morgan and I made 4 poi's for the class and it was quite simple.
  • My third favorite was doing house team challenge. I was in  name objects in Maori. We got 9 correct and tied 2nd with orewa.
  • My third favorite was writing my pepeha. I liked writing it because you could personalize it.

Making fry bread

Today at school I made Fry Bread. We had to put in all the ingredients, mix, knead and cook. They were really yum!!!

Fry Bread Recipe (enough per pair)

¼  cup of warm water
½  teaspoon of sugar
½  teaspoon of yeast
½  cup of plain flour
½  teaspoon of salt
Cooking oil

Add sugar to water and dissolve, then sprinkle the yeast over the top.

Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl and stir in the yeast mixture (can add more flour if needed). Roll out on a floured board and knead.
Leave to rise for about 10 minutes, or till it doubles in size. Return the dough to a floured board and knead a little pressing with your knuckles. Cut into small diamond shapes and shallow fry in hot oil until golden.

Current Events: A 9 year old girl has made beautiful care packages for homeless woman

When  nine  year old Khloe Thompson  first asked her mom why people were homeless, the answer inspired her to brighten their lives. She started her own charity Khloe Kares. So she can provide homeless women with brilliantly colorful shoulder bags that she sews with her great- grandmother and packs with personal items. Her great-grandmother taught her how to sew the handsome totes, which she then fills them with soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and other personal care. Khloe personally takes them to homeless women in the streets around her Californian neighborhood, handing them out.  Her family says Khloe's work in Irvine has "opened our eyes" to be more respectful and helpful to the homeless in their community. "Sometimes they give me hugs, sometimes they say " Gold bless you" and then they say " Thank you," Khloe told PopSugar. "Don't be so afraid of them they're just a normal person like you."

Current Events: Elephant lives with a bullet in head

An Elephant in Zimbabwe has received medical attention from a conservation group after getting a bullet wound to head by suspected  poachers.  The Elephant was found by veterinarians from Aware Trust Zimbabwe in Mana Pools National Park. He was believed to have been living with a bullet in his head for between  3-6 weeks. Pretty boy as he is nicknamed  is thought to have come to the park after being shot. A metal detector was used to scan the elephants head. The team sedated him, took an X-ray and cleaned the wound but judged it safer to leave the bullet in place. If the shot had hit a few centimeters down it would have gone to his brain. The elephant is believed to be 25 years old.

Why did the use a metal detector out of everything.
How long did it take the people to realize that they have an elephant with a gun wound in it's head.
My opinion
I think it's really sad that he had to live with that pain in his head and that people will actually harm a animal like that.

We went through the last of the Karangahake gorge and arrived  in Waihi. We warmed up and headed to play our first game. I played GD,GK. We didn't win any of our games but  I thought we did really well.  We played Hamilton and it wasn't just south or north Hamilton it's the best players in the whole of Hamilton so that's why I thought we did really well. After the last game we headed home. When I got home I told my Dad all about my day and what I have learned. I can't wait till this weekend when we go to Morrinsville.

Queens Birthday Weekend

On the weekend my parents and I went fishing with some friends. We caught 33 fish between the 6 of us. We were out for 6 hours!! We had to wait an 1 hour just to get in from the boat ramp at Waikawau. It was a great time fishing and I can't wait to go again.
